Climate Change - Mitigation

Climate Change Mitigation

Achieve greenhouse gas reductions with science-based targets

To avoid the worst impacts of climate change, global warming must be limited to below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels. This will require action from all aspects of society: Government, business and individuals.

The agriculture sector accounts for about 10% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Agriculture is highly fragmented, with many small farmers contributing to the overall emission. Accessing the agricultural supply chain and influencing change is often challenging. To reduce agricultural emissions many small actions are needed across the sector.

We help companies engage with their agricultural supply chain to understand GHG emission sources. Our work spans from company strategy through to on-farm mitigation. We support companies in developing science-based targets and supplier engagement strategies. We can also work with farmers to measure emissions and take action to mitigate climate change.

Recent areas of work include:

  • Assessment of scope 3 GHG emissions from agricultural supply chains
  • Hotspot mapping
  • Working with supply chains to develop mitigation strategies
  • Development of science-based targets

Sarah Wynn is the current manager of the Cool Farm Alliance Dairy and Beef Working Group. The group provides support and guidance to companies in measuring GHG emissions using the Cool Farm Tool.
