Animal Welfare

Global demand for livestock products is projected to increase by 70% by 2050, which will put the food industry under pressure to significantly increase production. Animal welfare is becoming an increasingly high profile issue and an increasingly important part of being a responsible business. There are many drivers for this including tightening of regulatory requirements on animal welfare, concerns about the use of antibiotics, food safety and quality, food fraud, investor pressure and consumer interest in traceability and the welfare of farm animals.

ADAS delivers a wide range of consultancy, research and training in relation to the health and welfare, management and economics of farming of all major livestock species (including cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry), working to improve stock performance, ensure consumer needs are met and enhance industry reputation.  Farm animal welfare has become a more strategic issue for many companies with many making strong corporate commitments to higher animal welfare practices.  ADAS supports businesses in overcoming the challenges they face as they strive to make continuous improvement in farm animal welfare.

Our Specialist livestock consultants work with farmers, policy-makers, retailers, foodservice businesses, processors, universities and animal welfare organisations to set the agenda, assess, monitor and improve animal welfare across the supply chain. ADAS works with clients both in the UK and internationally.
