The ability to keep ornamental crops within agreed product height specifications is paramount for any horticultural business. Short term, this is achieved by the use of chemical plant growth regulators (PGRs), but product revocations and label changes have meant that new products have needed to be evaluated. Longer-term, a new approach is required to control plant growth, and water deficit irrigation has the potential to be this option. This webinar summarises the work undertaken at the Bedding and Pot Plant Centre on new PGRs and their potential in commercial production, and the evaluation of water deficit irrigation as a commercial alternative for growth control in poinsettias and its wider application to other protected ornamental crops.
The webinar presentations will include:
- The evaluation and use of new plant growth regulator products on ornamentals – Jill England, ADAS
- The commercial application of water deficit irrigation techniques to control plant growth in ornamental crops – Mark Else, NIAB EMR
