In the currently adopted local plan for Tameside Council, the site is allocated for employment use. However, due to years of neglect and significant underinvestment, the site has become vacant and overgrown. Residents who live adjacent to the sites saw the vacant plots as an open space for dog walking, resulting in limited local opposition.
Seeking to maximise the sites sustainability, the proposed scheme is a high quality development. The newly proposed buildings will be located to ensure there is no harm to both the local residents or to the existing users of the Business Park. The proposal took into account the concerns raised by members of the public and council officers and ensures a scheme which will work well with the end users and also cause no disruption to the locality. The well designed scheme from KMPG resulted in no objections from any of the relevant consultees.
ADAS' Kenny Dhillon spoke in favour of the proposal, noting that the RSK Group is a growing business which contributes to employment and economic development within the Greater Manchester region. With RSK strengthening their presence within the local area, the move by Envirolab to this new, purposely designed building will assist with the sustainable growth of the company, as well as positively contributing to the local economy.
After the hearing, the Planning Committee sought to unanimously approve the application. This is a great result for the ADAS Planning Team, KMGP and the RSK Group. As the business expands, this will generate more opportunities as well as create a modern, state-of-the-art building for Envirolab.
