ADAS wins Defra project to review evidence of Integrated Pest Management

Published on

ADAS and Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) are excited to have recently won a Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) contract for the Review of evidence on Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This six month project involves conducting stakeholder interviews to inform a Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA).

ADAS wins Defra project to review evidence of Integrated Pest Management

This evidence assessment aims to:

  • Understand the current extent and coverage of IPM in the UK,
  • Explore which IPM interventions are most or least successful,
  • Produce summary case studies of IPM initiatives which have had a positive impact.

This research will cover the range and diversity of crops and pests, indoor and outdoor growing and IPM methods.

The 25 Year Environment Plan puts IPM at the centre of the future approach to crop protection. The aim of the plan is to create policies which focus on minimising pesticide use and making the greatest possible use of alternatives, such as improved crop husbandry and the use of natural predators.

ADAS Project Manager Dr Carla Turner comments

It is very exciting that we have won this project working with Defra. IPM has been important in agriculture for many years now and is becoming increasingly important to farmers and policy makers alike. The project will allow us to understand the current evidence available and identify important gaps where more research is needed

Our findings will be published to Defra after March 2020 and we look forward to sharing them soon after.
