ADAS achieves perfect score in eDNA proficiency test
Published on 29 March 2018
ADAS has correctly identified 100% of blinded eDNA samples in 2018 eDNA proficiency test. The proficiency testing scheme has been developed to provide evidence of the level of quality in the service offered by the different eDNA testing labs. For underperforming labs this provides them with an opportunity to recognise and address any problems with their procedures so that they can improve their service. For ecologists using eDNA as a survey tool it allows them to compare the services offered by each testing lab and the opportunity to discuss with their eDNA analysis supplier how they performed.
The results of the 2018 eDNA GCN proficiency tests are now available. This latest round comprised ten different unknown samples to analyse and in this case labs provided their own eDNA kits so that any level of sample degradation/recovery could also be monitored. This time, 5 out of 9 laboratories correctly identified all samples, (4 of 7 labs summer 2017), three laboratories reported different levels of false positive detection in negative controls.
The table below shows the full results of the test. Highlighted is the ADAS eDNA lab service (Lab 005 in this iteration), who again identified all samples correctly. We do not know the identity of the other laboratories taking part.
