ADAS provide expert solutions and policy advice on agricultural and environmental issues. Our Soils, Crops and Water Business carry out a wide range of technical laboratory, glasshouse and field studies in a wide range of horticultural and agricultural crops, specialising in Crop Pathology, Physiology, Soils and Nutrition, Entomology and Weeds. We have a vacancy for a Research Technician working in our field experiments team, both on-site and on grower holdings.
The role will be mainly field based, working on a number of mainly soils and nutrients experiments, along with working on physiology and pathology experiments.
Duties will include:
- Assisting marking out of studies
- Application of treatments
- Collection and processing of samples
- Disease monitoring of plants
- Spraying of chemicals onto trials
- In-field assessments and observations
- Preparation and processing of plant, soil and water samples,
- Harvesting of plots
- Collection and processing of data.
The role requires good communication skills with both team and lone working. Successful candidates will need to be prepared to be ‘hands-on’ and learn skills on the job.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Successful candidates will ideally have a science background, with an interest in soils and crop physiology, or be able to demonstrate an interest and willingness to learn skills in these areas, along with plant pathology. Candidates will be required to work 40 hours a week. Due to the seasonal nature of the work a flexible approach is needed, as there will be a requirement to work overtime (evenings and weekends) during busy periods to ensure scientific objectives are met, and delivery within suitable weather conditions are optimized.
A full driving licence to drive manual vehicles in the UK is essential
