Land Management Consultant

As part of our Environment Business the Land Management team focus on providing services to a wide range of clients, including civil engineering contractors, developers, utility companies and the renewable energy and rural industries.  As a result of our continued success, we require an experienced proactive Land Management Consultant / Senior Consultant with the drive and desire to help grow our client project delivery in the South of England. 

The successful candidate will work well with limited supervision and have experience across a broad range of land management skills and project management. This is a unique opportunity for the right person to join the business and rapidly progress their career in land management. They will join a wider team of Environment professionals and work closely with colleagues in other disciplines, such as Arboriculture, Forestry, Ecology, Planning, Landscape and Archaeology.

The Role

We are looking for a keen, capable team player with the ability to both deliver existing contract work and win new work with new or existing clients to help build our expanding Land Management team. You will be proficient at one or more aspects of land management, such as catchment and/or water resources management, pollution treatment and prevention, biodiversity offsetting or recreational site management.

Successful candidates will

  • Design, specify, manage and deliver profitable contracts including land, catchment, water resources and habitat management for a range of civil engineering, development, utility and rail projects.
  • Have experience of preparing environmental consents and permits including management plans
  • Negotiate favourable commercial terms and manage subcontractors and suppliers to deliver projects.
  • Tender and manage contracts for land management works on clients’ land.
  • Prepare project method statements, health and safety and environmental risk assessments, materials and traffic management plans as well as project quality plans.
  • With the support of the wider team, supervise practical works on site effectively managing quality and commercial issues.
  • Provide environmental/land management (depending on your expertise) advice on these and on long term land management contracts
  • Carry out sales and business development activities for the Land Management team through establishing excellent relationships with existing clients, finding new clients and the preparation of proposals, tenders and sales material.
  • Work as part of a team and build professional relationships with colleagues to ensure best use of skills and knowledge.
  • Liaising with clients and statutory bodies as part of the delivery of the land management services.
  • Manage your own time to ensure that work is delivered on time and to the required standards. 

Person specification

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Degree in an Environmental/Land Management related subject
  • To be considered for the Senior position at least five years’ relevant experience in a land management consultant role
  • Excellent commercial and project management skills
  • Good generalist knowledge of agriculture, land management, habitat management and practical conservation plus in-depth knowledge and experience of a specialist subject within the field of environmental/land management
  • Appropriate level of membership of a relevant professional body
  • Good team player, with the ability to work independently
  • Enthusiasm, energy and drive to develop skills and deliver projects to the highest standard
  • Have excellent written communication and report writing skills.
  • Full driving licence and use of car
  • Able to work alone and manage your own time to ensure that work is delivered on time and to the required standards.
  • Flexible working with regards to type of work, timing and location.
  • Quote/tender production.
  • Client management experience.
  • Proficient in the use of Office365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)

Desirable

  • Proficient in the use of both database and GIS software
