Senior Research Technicians (Pathology, Physiology, Soils and Nutrients)

Closing Date - Wednesday 9th October 2019

Location: Boxworth, Cambridgeshire
Salary: £16,500 – £20,000, depending on experience

ADAS provides expert solutions and policy advice on agricultural and environmental issues. Our Soils, Crops and Water Business carry out a wide range of technical laboratory, glasshouse and field studies in a wide range of horticultural and agricultural crops, specialising in Crop Pathology, Physiology, Soils and Nutrition, Entomology and Weeds.

We have vacancies for Research Technicians working in our field experiments team, both on-site and on grower holdings.  The roles will be mainly field-based, working on a number of field and glasshouse experiments, focusing on crop pathology, physiology, soils and nutrients.  One role will specialise in laboratory and glasshouse pathology work.  Duties will include assisting marking out of studies, application of treatments, collection and processing of samples, disease monitoring of plants, weed identification,  spraying of chemicals onto trials, in-field assessments and observations, preparation and processing of plant, soil and water samples, harvesting of plots and collection and processing of data. The role requires good communication skills with both team and lone working. Successful candidates will need to be prepared to be ‘hands-on’ and learn skills on the job.

Successful candidates will ideally have a science background, with an interest in crop pathology, physiology, weeds and soils and nutrients, or be able to demonstrate an interest and willingness to learn skills in these areas. Candidates will be required to work 40 hours a week.  Due to the seasonal nature of the work a flexible approach is needed, as there will be a requirement to work overtime (evenings and weekends) during busy periods to ensure scientific objectives are met, and delivery within suitable weather conditions are optimized.  A full driving licence to drive manual vehicles in the UK is essential.

In return, we offer an annual salary of £16,500 – £20,000, depending on experience, with payment for additional hours worked. We encourage continuing professional development.  As an entrepreneurial organisation, we foster the growth of our employees.
